NOTES
The word "crescive" means "growing." The work begins with a somewhat meditative prelude, with the solo violin attempting to "find itself" before being joined by the piano, which then accompanies it via a series of rather solemn sounding chords. The piece progresses from there, growing in intensity through a series of metric modulations (although "tempo modulations" is perhaps the more appropriate term) and a gradual delineation of the piano part, which moves from its original, more "vertical" chordal accompaniment to one of greater contrapuntal complexity.
